The young batsman of Rajasthan Royals, Sanju Samson has made this edition of the IPL his own. With impressive dashing performances in the first two matches held in Sharjah, he has earned the praise and adulation of people ranging from the common audience to high profile cricket legends. The latest addition to the Sanju Samson fan club is India’s heartthrob and prominent Indian opener Smriti Mandhana. In her latest interview she revealed that she is very much impressed by Sanju Samson’s batting and hence only for that reason, she is going to support the Rajasthan Royals in this edition of the IPL.

Smriti Mandhana to support RR in awe of Sanju Samson

Contrary to the popular expectations, this edition of the IPL is dominated by young Indian stars. From Sanju Samson to young Ravi Bishnoi, most of the young players have pulled above their weight and have put up above par performances than their senior counterparts. Sanju Samson in particular has caught everyone’s attention with his brutal hitting. After showing glimpses of his talent in the previous seasons, the wicket-keeper batsman from Kerala is finally putting up consistent performances in this season. His onslaught in Sharjah was praised by many including the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Kevin Pietersen, and Gautam Gambhir. This has also caught the eye of India’s prominent batter Smriti Mandhana. She revealed that she has now become a fan of Sanju, and for that reason, she would be supporting RR this year.

“The way young guys are batting is very inspirational to see. I think Sanju Samson, the way he is batting I have just become a huge fan of him. I have started supporting RR because of him. The way he is batting is crazy, next-level batting. I am thinking to learn from everyone who is batting and bowling well,” she told India Today.

Mini women’s IPL may happen in November

She said that she is quite biased about the players that she is supporting and added that she is rooting for her favourites Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, MS Dhoni, and Rohit Sharma.

“I am watching all the matches. I am quite biased with all the players and I have not got one team to support. I am not being diplomatic; I actually don’t have one team to support. I am supporting Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, Rohit Sharma, and MS Dhoni,” Mandhana was quoted as saying to India Today.

It is reported that a Women’s challenger Trophy (Mini IPL) is in the pipeline, and if that’s the case, she is sure to land in UAE to lead any one of the sides. As per ESPN Cricinfo, the challenger trophy is planned between November 4 and November 9.
