Indian vice-captain Smriti Mandhana has added yet another feather in her cap as she completed 1000 runs in T20I cricket. The Indian batter achieved this milestone in the match against Australia in the ICC’s women’s world T20.

Mandhana second fastest Indian women to reach 1000 runs

The opening batter is the second quickest Indian to achieve this feat with legendary Indian cricketer Mithali Raj being the fastest.

The 22-year-old cricketer has been a prolific run scorer for India except for a couple of small lean patches. Mandhana rose to limelight in last year’s 50-over world cup when she produced two back-to-back quality innings.

She has remained outstanding in the shorter version of the game. She is a big star in the women’s Big Bash League and her aggressive batting has won her several accolades.

Mandhana powers India to a famous win against Australia

Mandhana got starts in the three matches played so far in this world cup but failed to make a big contribution. However, against Australia, she came out all guns blazing and produced a match-winning knock.

The left-hand batter scored her career-best T20I innings of 83 runs off just 55 balls to power India to 167 runs against Australia.

In response, Australia crumbled to just 119 runs in their 20 overs.

Wanted to score big against AUS: Mandhana

In the post-match presentation ceremony, Mandhana noted that the first three matches she got starts but couldn’t convert it. So she just wanted to score big against Australia.

When asked about the review she took, she revealed that it was Veda Krishnamurthy who insisted on the review, and thanks to her India got 20-30 runs extra.

She also thinks that the way India bowled and fielded today, this was the best of the four games but at the same time she feels that batting-wise the performance against New Zealand was better than this.
