India has pulled off a new trick from the bag by asking KL Rahul to don the gloves for the limited-overs matches. According to the skipper Virat Kohli, it allows the team to have a better balance as it gives them an option of an extra batsman. Something similar was done by Former Indian captain and now BCCI President, Sourav Ganguly back in the early 2000s. Ganguly asked Rahul Dravid to keep wickets for the 2003 Cricket World Cup, in which India became the runners-up.

Ganguly on Virat’s move of having KL Rahul as keeper

When Ganguly was asked what he thinks about this move which is similar to something which he did with Dravid, the BCCI boss gave his honest opinion about the matter. He said,” Virat Kohli takes that decision”. He further said that the role of KL Rahul will be decided by the team’s captain and team management.

The former Indian captain then praised KL Rahul for his performances in the white-ball cricket. Ganguly said, “he has played well in ODIs and T20Is. He started well in Test cricket but has gone down slightly. But in limited-overs, he has played well and hopes he continues all the good work but as I said, all these decisions are of the team management’s”.

After this when Ganguly was asked about who would be India’s first-choice keeper-batsman for the T20 World Cup, he further said that the selectors, Virat and head coach Ravi Shastri will take a decision on that. “Whatever they think, it will happen that way”, the president said.

” I’m enjoying this”, Rahul on wicket-keeping for India

India’s decision of having KL Rahul with the dual role of the wicket-keeper and batsman has brought them some good results. He has been batting well as well with a significant rise in wicket-keeping skills. Recently after striking a brilliant half-century against New Zealand, Rahul said that he is enjoying his time as a keeper. “I haven’t done it at the international level but I have been keeping for my IPL franchise for three or four years now. I have also kept for Karnataka when there has been an opportunity,” said Rahul, who seems to have finally cracked the success code in international cricket.
