Cricket South Africa has officially announced their squads for the upcoming white-ball series in India, with Temba Bavuma leading the ODI side and Aiden Markram captaining the T20I team. Temba Bavuma will be leading the ODI side, whereas Aiden Markram will continue leading the Proteas in the shortest format of the game. The limited-overs series will kick off with a three-match ODI series followed by a five-match T20I series between November 30 and December 19, 2025.

South Africa ODI Squad: Bavuma to Lead

Temba Bavuma will continue as captain of the ODI side, guiding the team through matches in Ranchi, Raipur, and Visakhapatnam. The squad features a mix of seasoned campaigners like Quinton de Kock, who recently reversed his ODI retirement, and rising talents such as Rubin Hermann. The absence of Kagiso Rabada, ruled out with a rib stress injury, is a major setback, but South Africa will rely on their depth in pace bowling to fill the void.

Temba Bavuma (C), Ottneil Baartman, Corbin Bosch, Matthew Breetzke, Dewald Brevis, Nandre Burger, Quinton de Kock, Tony de Zorzi, Rubin Hermann, Keshav Maharaj, Marco Jansen, Aiden Markram, Lungi Ngidi, Ryan Rickelton, Prenelan Subrayen.

Key Talking Points

  • Temba Bavuma is back to lead the side after missing out in Pakistan due to injury.
  • Premier pacer Kagiso Rabada has been ruled out of the squad due to a rib injury, which kept him out of the ongoing Test series as well.
  • Quinton de Kock, who recently reversed his international retirement, has been included in both the squads.
  • Test regulars Aiden Markram, Tony de Zorzi, Ryan Rickelton, Marco Jansen, Corbin Bosch, and Keshav Maharaj have been included in the squad.
  • There was no room for Tristan Stubbs.

South Africa T20I Squad: Anrich Nortje returns

For the five-match T20I series, Aiden Markram will take charge of the Proteas. His leadership comes at a crucial time, as South Africa looks to build momentum ahead of the 2026 T20 World Cup. The squad sees the return of Anrich Nortje, who has been sidelined for over a year due to injury. His inclusion bolsters the pace attack, compensating for Rabada’s absence. Nortje last featured for South Africa in the T20 World Cup 2024 in the USA and the Caribbean.

Key Talking Points

  • Temba Bavuma is back to lead the side after missing out in Pakistan due to injury.

  • Anrich Nortje is back in the squad after last playing in the finals of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 against India.

  • With Markram back in the squad, expect him to open the innings alongside Quinton de Kock.

Series Outlook

Playing in India is always challenging, with conditions favoring spin and crowds adding pressure. For South Africa, this tour is an opportunity to fine-tune strategies, test bench strength, and build momentum ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, which will be played in this very part of the world from February.

  • ODI Series: November 30 – December 6 (Ranchi, Raipur, Visakhapatnam)
  • T20I Series: December 9 – December 19 (Cuttack, Mullanpur, Dharamsala, Lucknow, and Ahmedabad)

India, known for its formidable home record, will pose a stern challenge. However, South Africa’s squads reflect a balance of experience and youth, giving them a fighting chance to compete strongly.
