Swedish Cricket has made a massive announcement, signing South Africa legend Jonty Rhodes as their new head coach. Apart from the coaching role, Rhodes will contribute to the growth and development of youth cricket in Sweden. The South African’s stint with Sweden Cricket begins in November.
“I am really happy about the opportunity to move to Sweden with my family and look forward to working with Swedish cricket. This opportunity has come at a perfect time and I am grateful to be able to invest my energies in a completely new environment. I can't wait to get started”, said Rhodes on being appointed as Sweden’s cricket coach.
Zalmay Daftani, chairman of the Swedish Cricket Association, expressed delight on Rhodes’ appointment as national coach. “His zeal to support our vision in Sweden as head coach will be incredibly valuable in helping our development move forward,” said Daftani.
“Swedish Cricket Federation to invest in junior cricket, high performance and growth through the appointment of South African cricket great, Jonty Rhodes as head coach,” said the federation's statement.

Jonty Rhodes has played 52 Tests and 245 ODIs for South Africa. Regarded as one of the greatest fielders ever to play the game, has been coaching assignments for quite some time now, including both national setups and franchise cricket.
The 51-year-old superstar is currently a fielding coach of Kings XI Punjab in cricket’s biggest T20 league Indian Premier League. Previously, Rhodes has had coaching stints with national teams of South Africa, Kenya and Sri Lanka. He has been associated with the IPL for almost a decade now, as fielding coach of various franchises.
