After winning the ODI series 2-1, the young Indian side marched on to the T20Is. The first game was held at the R. Premadasa stadium in Colombo yesterday. The visitors put on a clinical display with bat and ball and won the game by 38 runs. Varun Chakravarthy and Prithvi Shaw earned their debut caps. Chakravarthy got his first wicket in international cricket thanks to a moment of magic from Ishan Kishan.

Ishan Kishan reminds fans of MS Dhoni

The wicketkeeper-batsman enthralled cricket fans by affecting a lightning-fast stumping to dismiss Dasun Shanaka. The incident took place in the 18th over of the second innings. Varun bowled a carrom ball, and Shanaka prodded at it and lost his balance. His front foot came off the ground, and Kishan broke the stumps in super quick time. Watch the video:

The third umpire was consulted, and the Sri Lankan captain received the red signal. It put an end to any hope of a miraculous victory the hosts might have had. Fans were really impressed by Kishan’s glovework which reminded them of MS Dhoni. The former Indian captain was electric behind the stumps and was known to have the ‘quickest hands in the east.’ Here are some reactions by the Twitterati:

IND vs. SL 1st T20I Scorecard:

India 164-5 in 20.0 overs (Shikhar Dhawan 46, Suryakumar Yadav 50, Ishan Kishan 20*, Dushmantha Chameera 2-24, Wanindu Hasaranga 2-28) beat Sri Lanka by 38 runs (Avishka Fernando 26, Charith Asalanka 44, Bhuvneshwar Kumar 4-22, Deepak Chahar 2-24)

Earlier in the day, Sri Lank opted to bowl after winning the toss. Prithvi Shaw was sent back to the pavilion off the very first ball. Dhawan and Suryakumar Yadav continued their good form. Samson and Ishan Kishan played some good cameos, and India finished with a respectable score. However, they would have been a little disappointed with how the final overs played out.

In response, Sri Lanka got off to a good start. Krunal Pandya and Chahal provided the first breakthroughs. After that, wickets kept falling at regular intervals, and Kumar and Chahar were the chief destructors. Interestingly all six bowlers used by Shikhar Dhawan grabbed a wicket at least.
