According to recent relevant reports, atleast four players from the Sydney Thunder camp has tested positive for COVID-19 ahead of the New Year’s Eve blockbuster clash. Earlier the Perth Scorchers vs Melbourne Stars clash was also postponed after a member of the Stars’ support staff tested Covid positive.
As per the latest update released by Fox Cricket, Cricket Australia (CA) is currently looking out for a detailed information on whether the STR vs THU match can go ahead keeping in mind South Australia’s close contact guidelines. The Sydney Thunder players are currently awaiting their PCR results that are expected to arrive by Friday afternoon. However, even if the rest of the players test negative, it is very unlikely that the game will be played because of the government’s strict rules around close contacts.
It has also been understood that the Adelaide Strikers team have not been impacted by the virus. Also, Cricket Australia reportedly asked the Perth Scorchers whether they would want to fly from Melbourne to Adelaide in order to play the Adelaide Strikers. But the Perth Scorchers refused the offer.
On the other hand, 7 players and 8 support staff members from the Melbourne Stars camp have tested positive for COVID-19 which has casted serious doubts over their next game against Perth Scorchers scheduled on 2 January at the Junction Oval in Melbourne. It is being learnt that Cricket Australia and Big Bash teams are right now in the midst of a serious meeting to determine the next course of action for the remainder of the Big Bash League 2021-22 season.
