While the whole world is living in quarantine, different sports personalities around the world are finding themselves ways to remain fit and get engaged in various activities inside their homes. One among such is Indian football team captain, Sunil Chhetri. He took to twitter to have some lighter moments with his fans. He asked his fans to ask whatever questions they wanted to ask him using the #AskChhetri hashtag and promised to answer as much as questions as he could.

Which IPL team would Chhetri play for?

One of his fans took this golden opportunity to ask him about the team that he would like play for in the Indian Premier League if ever he gets a chance. To which Chhetri replied “I am a Bangalore boy, and that should answer your question”. Certainly he was referring to the Bangalore based IPL franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore. Chhetri has a strong connection with Bangalore. He represents Bengaluru FC in the Indian Super League and has been one of their leading icons for the past few years.

Moreover Chhetri and Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli are close friends off the field. And coincidentally Kohli happens to be the skipper of Royal Challenges Bangalore. He has mentioned Virat as one of the cricketer he admires the most in world cricket.

Fans confused over Chhetri’s comment

But some of the fans took his comment to mock both the IPL franchises Kings XI Punjab and Royal Challengers Bangalore. One fan asked Chhetri if he was referring to Kings XI Punjab as the team that he would like to play for as most of the Bangalore boys or Karnataka cricketers in general are playing for Kings XI Punjab in the IPL.

RCB has suffered so much criticism from fans for not giving enough opportunities for local players.

Kings XI have twice or thrice more number of players from Karnataka in their squad than the local franchise RCB. Even their captain KL Rahul and Head Coach and Director of Cricketing Operations Anil Kumble hails from Karnataka. This has even led to fans calling Kings XI Punjab mockingly as Kings XI Karnataka.

RCB Responds

IPL Franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore has responded to Chhetri’s tweet. They’ve put a post on twitter and various other social media sites welcoming the Indian football captain to RCB family. They also posted a video which shows a RCB jersey with Chhetri’s name printed on it with the caption :

“We are ready when you are ready, @chhetri_sunil11”.
