Sunil Gavaskar picks India’s wicket-keeper against Australia

After appreciating the heroic show of two youngsters against Windies, Indian selectors are in a big dilemma to call the players against Australia. Prithvi Shaw and Rishabh Pant are undoubtedly India’s biggest found in recent time that can be the future of the team. Shaw’s scintillating performance brings laurels for the young bloke, and he earned Man Of The Series title in his debut string and Rishabh Pant’s 90+ scores twice left no doubt in the selector’s mind for his assortment in the next series.

The head coach of Indian cricket team is pretty clear about his choice for the upcoming series, but what veterans of the game think about the talent management policy of India can be a cue for the national selectors.

Former Indian Captain and batting legend Sunil Gavaskar asked about picking India’s wicket-keeper for the Australia series, and he nodded in favour of the evident side.

Sunil Gavaskar quoted:

“He (Rishabh Pant) as a stumper is improving day-by-day. The more he practices against Jadeja and Ashwin, he’ll get better with time. He will get used to with spin and its variety. Unfortunately for Wriddiman Saha, but Rishabh’s current form can’t be ignored at this stage. He makes his way straight away to playing XI”.

Why Saha is not in the race?

Before Rishabh Pant, Wriddhiman Saha was a regular pick as a wicket-keeper in Tests. He injured his hamstring in the opener match of South African Series. He also had an injury on his shoulder which was located during rehab. Saha was unable to get fit against England and selectors called Dinesh Kartik in his absence which was a blunder; hence Rishabh Pant was given a chance to prove his ability behind the stumps. Rishabh grabbed the opportunity from both of his arms and scored a century at the Oval, England. later on, he was called to play against Windies where once again pant smashed 92-runs twice. He impacted the most as a batsman which hid the flaws of wicket-keeping skills.

Saha’s back-to-back sufferings helped Rishabh rise in the long format, and eventually, he became the top choice of the veterans including Sunil Gavaskar and Ravi Shastri.
