New SRH Captain: In an unexpected turn of events, Sunrisers Hyderabad has appointed Kane Williamson as the captain of the team for the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 season. As per the official statement, SRH relieved David Warner from the captain’s duties after a poor run of form for the team.
2016 IPL champions are propping the table in the league following a return of just one win in six rounds.
SRH confirmed via the official statement today that New Zealand captain Kane Williamson will be taking over the captaincy from David Warner. SRH have lost five times in the first six rounds. Here’s SRH’s official statement:
SRH headed into a new era after signing David Warner for US$880,000 in the 2014 IPL Auction. Warner took over the captain role the following season and led the franchise to its first title win in 2016. David
David Warner also led the batting scoring charts three times in five seasons; 2015, 2017, and 2019.
Along with the captaincy change, Sunrisers Hyderabad also mentioned that the management will be looking at SRH overseason combination for the next game against Rajasthan Royals. But since Kane Williamson and Rashid Khan will be the team, irrespective of the combination, there are only two spots left to flirt with. And both those two spots concerns Jonny Bairstow and former captain David Warner.
Since Bairstow is the leading run-scorer for SRH this season with 218 runs in six league games, the team is better off with the Englishman at the top. And that means we have trimmed down the contest to just one spot, currently occupied by former captain David Warner.
