The rumor mill for the IPL 2027 trade window is gaining intensity with big names circulating to change their base ahead of the 20th season of the Tata IPL. The latest name is former Indian T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav who could potentially shift his base from Mumbai Indians (MI) ahead of the IPL 2027 season.
Having established himself as one of the most explosive 360-degree batters in world cricket and a proven leader on the international stage, Suryakumar’s future with MI has become a massive talking point. Reports suggest that three high-profile franchises, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), and Delhi Capitals (DC), are closely monitoring his situation for a possible blockbuster trade.
The primary attraction for all three franchises isn’t just Suryakumar’s high-impact middle-order batting, but also his proven reputation and experience as a leader on the international stage.
Kolkata Knight Riders have emerged as the most prominent franchise linked with Suryakumar. Suryakumar previously represented KKR before joining Mumbai Indians and evolving into a global T20 superstar. Following a difficult IPL 2026 campaign and the retirement of their skipper Ajinkya Rahane, KKR are actively searching for a stable Indian captain and a middle-order anchor around whom they can build their future squad. Lucknow Super Giants finished 10th in IPL 2026 and are undergoing a complete squad and leadership restructuring after trading their skipper, Rishabh Pant, ahead of the upcoming season. While reports indicate LSG would readily offer him full captaincy duties, Suryakumar’s interest in moving to the Lucknow setup reportedly remains uncertain.

Despite intense trade speculation, the ultimate decision rests with Mumbai Indians. Information currently available suggests that MI view Suryakumar as a core match-winner and are extremely reluctant to entertain any trade offers. A player of his calibre is virtually impossible to replace through the trade market.
Reports also hint that Suryakumar himself remains keen on taking up a core leadership role at Mumbai Indians.
