We are just 4 months away from the T20 World Cup. The 2026 edition of the shortest format World Cup is set to be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka between 7th February to 8th March. Like the last edition, 20 teams are all set to be a part of the upcoming edition as well. Let’s learn more about how many teams have qualified already.
The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 is set to be a blockbuster event, jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka in February–March 2026. With the tournament expanding to 20 teams, the qualification process has been more competitive as there is no room for error. As of early October 2025, 17 teams have already secured their spots, with three more to be decided via the Asia and East Asia-Pacific (EAP) regional qualifiers.
The top eight teams from the 2024 T20 World Cup earned direct qualification, along with the two host nations. Additionally, three teams qualified via ICC T20I rankings.
The remaining slots were filled through fiercely contested regional tournaments across Africa, Europe, and the Americas. Asia and EAP qualifiers are underway in Oman, with three spots still open.
Namibia and Zimbabwe clinched the two African spots. Namibia defeated Tanzania by 63 runs, while Zimbabwe overcame Kenya with a seven-wicket win in the two semifinals of the Africa Qualifiers.
The Netherlands continued their strong T20 form, while Italy made history by qualifying for their first-ever ICC World Cup event.
Canada emerged victorious in the regional final, securing their place in the 2026 edition.
The final three spots will be decided in Oman, where nine teams are battling it out: Japan, Kuwait, Malaysia, Nepal, Oman, Papua New Guinea, Qatar, Samoa, and the UAE. The competition is expected to be intense, with Nepal, Oman, and the UAE considered early favorites.
