T20 World Cup Postponed

As the world is going through a huge crisis, all the sporting actions are being cancelled and especially the ICC tournaments that includes multiple nations participating which will only increase the spread of the corona pandemic have very less chance to go ahead as per scheduled.

One of the biggest tournaments in IPL is already postponed for the time being and there is a every chance that WT20 which was scheduled to happen after 4 years might also be postponed to 2022 and the official reports are awaited sooner than later.

The Judgement day

There is a ICC board meeting scheduled on Thursday in which the official reports regarding the postponement of the WT20 is expected to be released.

An ICC board member told the following when asked about the meeting

There is a good chance that postponement of World T20 will be decided during Thursday’s board meeting. Whether there will be a formal announcement or not is the question. There is very little chance of World T20 going ahead in this situation. I don’t think either Cricket Australia or the top boards will mind

Cricket boards in jeopardy

The cricket boards are in complete jeopardy as there is no clarity regarding the future of the cricket. One of the important decisions that needs to be taken by the boards is to conduct which tournaments to recover from the huge loss inflicted by the corona pandemic.

If the IPL happens in the october window where the WT20 was scheduled, there will be another T20 world cup which was scheduled to take place in India in February-March of 2021 which will be followed by another IPL in the moth of April which would mean 3 big ticket tournaments in the matter of 6 months. A BCCI insider said

There are a few questions that need to be asked. The commercial viability of having a T20 World Cup in February-March 2021. Before that, an IPL in October-November window and another IPL in the March-May window. So we are looking at three big-ticket tournaments in six months. In this current economic scenario, that will be a very bad call

It is also learnt that, the boards will focus more on bilateral rather than multi nation tournaments.

India is most certainly going to Australia and England is coming for a five-match series in India. As far as South Africa T20 series is concerned, let Cricket South Africa decide where they stand as far as ICC policy matters are concerned,
