In the game of T20 cricket, all-rounders are always worth gold as they add a ton of balance to the playing 11. In the Indian Premier League, if the all-rounder is Indian, he becomes more vital as the franchises can only field four foreign players.
Hence, all-rounders have always been the most in-demand players during the auctions. In the IPL 2024, barring a couple of teams, most teams have some quality all-rounders in their ranks. It will be interesting to see how the teams will utilize their all-round assets in the upcoming season.
An Indian pace-bowling all-rounder is a rare commodity in the IPL and hence, Hardik Pandya is special. The Mumbai Indians skipper is also a hard-hitting batter who could mould his game as per the game requirement. In addition to that, he could also bowl some useful overs with the new ball and in the middle as well.
Chennai Super Kings have some quality all-rounders in their ranks, including Moeen Ali, Mitchell Santner, Rachin Ravindra, and Daryl Mitchell. However, Ravindra Jadeja stands tall above the rest as he will be the frontline spinner for CSK. Dre Russ is the most important player in the KKR squad. His ability to bowl at any stage of the game alongside his impeccable hitting skills make him a player to watch out for in the IPL 2024.
LSG have many all-rounders in their squad but Marcus Stoinis is expected to be the most impactful one. The Aussie is likely to play the role of the finisher for LSG and he is expected to bowl at the slowish Ekana wicket.
The Kings from Punjab have the likes of Sam Curran and Sikandar Raza in their ranks but Liam Livingstone will be their key overseas player in the IPL 2024. The English all-rounder’s hitting abilities need no explanation and he also bowls some useful overs with the ball. Livingstone will have to contribute with both bat and ball if PBKS have to do well in the upcoming season.
The Aussie all-rounder adds a lot of firepower to Delhi Capitals’ batting unit as he is likely to bat at number three for the franchise. While he hasn’t bowled much in recent times, if he can give a couple of overs of his medium-pace to his skipper, Mitchell Marsh can drive DC’s fortunes in the IPL 2024.
The Aussie Test and ODI skipper fetched a big cheque in the auctions for IPL 2024 and he is now likely to play ahead of Marco Jansen in the SRH team. While Pat Cummins is known for his bowling prowesses, he is no mug with the bat either. It will be interesting to see if Cummins could justify his massive price tag.
The absence of Hardik Pandya has left a gaping hole in Gujarat Titans’ squad. The Afghan all-rounder Azmatullah Omarzai is a quality all-rounder and he has had a couple of successful seasons now. He will be raring to perform for the Titans in the IPL 2024 and make a name for himself.
Rajasthan Royals don’t have a designated all-rounder in their ranks and they only have specialists in their squad. Riyan Parag is the only player in their team who could roll his arm over with his off-spinners. The youngster has not been able to fulfil his potential so far but Rajasthan Royals have kept their trust in him.
