Rishabh Pant failed to take the field in the second innings of the first ODI between India and Australia at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Tuesday. KL Rahul was handed over the wicket-keeping gloves instead of the designated keeper. After India was bowled out for 255, the tweet from the official handle of BCCI was posted which mentioned that Rishabh Pant had got a concussion after being hit on his helmet while he was batting. Rahul kept wickets for the entire match as Pant couldn’t return back on the field as he was kept under observation.

Pant’s struggle with form brings up team composition debate after the loss

The move, if happens, would make sense. India could be able to play Dhawan, Rohit and Rahul together and on current form, Rahul seems more valuable to the side than Pant. KL Rahul has kept wickets for his IPL franchises before and has done well for the last few seasons. The voice of the fans of Twitter suggests people want to watch KL Rahul instead of Rishabh Pant keeping. The talk has been surfacing for some time now, especially because of Pant’s inconsistent form. Sanju Samson’s name also surfaced in some fans’ opinions. Samson has been knocking at the selector’s door for quite some time now for hasn’t received a proper opportunity yet.

Rishabh Pant had a disappointing knock with the bat in the first ODI against Australia in Mumbai. The young wicket-keeper could only make 28 runs from 33 balls. Since ICC Cricket World Cup last year, MS Dhoni hasn’t made himself available for any international match which has given Pant more than a few opportunities to prove himself. But only once has he scored a 50+ score, but had got out at a very crucial stage in the innings that time. This has been another problem for him. With KL Rahul turning out to be good as a wicket-keeper, India might just think of experimenting with him in a match considering the ICC T20 World Cup later this year.
