Shikhar Dhawan misses ton by 2 runs, fans suffer massive heartbreak

Shikhar Dhawan : With one eye on the all the important ICC T20 World Cup scheduled to be held in India later this year, India have done a lot of experimentation in the ongoing home series against England. After a poor performance in the first India vs England T20I match, India took a big call and dropped Shikhar Dhawan from the side whereas the debutant duo of Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav delivered sensational performances to present a definite case for themselves. In an interesting fact, even after continuous failure, India persisted with KL Rahul at the top before Virat Kohli replaced him as the opener in the fifth and final T20I match against England.

Shikhar Dhawan misses a well-deserved ton

On the eve of the first ODI match against England, Indian captain Virat Kohli confirmed that the experienced duo of Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan will start as the two openers in the three-match ODI series against England. After losing the toss and being asked to bat first, India got off to a tentative start with the England bowling with some great discipline and eventually, Ben Stokes dismissed Rohit in the 16^th over. However, after his dismissal, the pair of Dhawan and Virat Kohli batted extremely well to compose a fabulous partnership of 105 runs. But then just when Shikhar came very close to scoring a well-deserved hundred, the Indian opener gifted a simple catch to Eoin Morgan at midwicket region off Ben Stokes’ bowling.

With Kohli’s missing yet another hundred, it was another massive heartbreak for the Indian cricket fans as Dhawan was dismissed after playing a remarkable innings of 98 runs off 106 balls that included 11 fours and 2 sixes. This 98 is now Dhawan’s highest score against England.
