Pace bowler Umesh Yadav has blamed the SG ball for not picking up the wickets of lower order batsmen quickly. The pace bowler said that the SG ball provides no help after some time and hence it is difficult to take wickets.

SG ball provide no pace and no bounce: Yadav

Yadav was speaking with the media after the end of the first day of the second Test between India and Windies. When asked about India’s failure to bundle out the tail-enders quickly in the recent times, the right-hand pace bowler said that we must realize that in India with SG Test balls on these kind of flat tracks you neither get pace nor bounce.

He explained that the SG balls become soft after 20 overs so the batsmen coming later don’t face many difficulties. Yadav also observed that the tailenders know that it will neither swing nor reverse.

According to the pacer, you just have to wait for something to happen and keep trying and he feels that you can’t really do it on such a big ground as the ones and twos keep coming.

Yadav thinks batting is easier for lower order batsmen

Yadav feels that in such situations all you can do is to bowl one spot but then you will realize that nothing is happening even off the pitch nor is it swinging. So he believes that when middle and lower order comes in they know that ball has become soft and it doesn’t come at a pace and batting becomes easier.

Windies’ lower order rescues the team

In India’s recent tour of England, the runs scored by England tailenders hurt India and today the same story repeated against Windies. The visitors were at 113 for 5 at one stage but then their Roston Chase and Jason Holder rescued the team and they ended the day at a relatively better position of 295 for 7.

Yadav is not the first player to be unimpressed by the SG ball. Earlier Virat Kohli and Ravichandran Ashwin have also expressed their displeasure with the SG ball.
