Kohli becomes the second Indian skipper to get the Man of the Match in England

Indian captain Virat Kohli was bestowed with the Man of the Match award after India secured a win at Trent Bridge by 203 runs against England.

With this Man of the Match trophy, Kohli joined legendary player Kapil Dev in an elite list. Kohli became the second skipper after Kapil Dev to win the trophy in England. Kapil Dev had won the award in 1986 in Lord’s and now Virat Kohli has achieved the feat after playing knocks of 97 runs and 103 runs in the third Test.

In the third match, Kohli amasses 200 runs in Nottingham, his 12th highest overall and the most by an Indian skipper in the longest format.

Overall, he also became the fourth Indian captain to be adjudged as the Man of the Match award in Tests outside Indian after Kapil Dev, Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid.

Enroute, Kohli also surpassed Mahela Jayawardene in the record of winning the Man of the Match award six times. Now he stands on the second position in the list only behind former Pakistan captain Imran Khan who has won it on ten occasions.

Many records tumbled as India registered a dominant win over the hosts and skipper Kohli became India’s second-most successful captain in Test history who has guided his team to 22 wins in the longest format of the game. He surpassed former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly. Mahendra Singh Dhoni sits atop in the list with 27 wins in 60 matches.

Kohli gifts his champagne bottle to his coach

“I want to dedicate this innings to my wife. She has motivated me a lot and she keeps me going. She is the only one who keeps me motivated out there,” Kohli said in the post-match presentation.

Sources suggest that Kohli gifted his champagne bottle to his coach Shastri. Kohli was given a bottle of champagne at the post-match ceremony, but Kohli gifted Shastri his reward to thank his coach who stood by him in thick and thin.
