Harshal Patel’s stunning figures of 5 for 27 saw Mumbai Indians getting restricted to 159 for 9 in their 20 overs. However, in a fascinating incident that took place during the 19th over of the match, RCB all-rounder Kyle Jamieson’s thunderbolt yorker delivery actually broke Krunal Pandya’s bat into two pieces.

Mumbai Indians all-rounder Krunal Pandya managed to score just 7 runs in the first match of IPL 2021.

MI vs RCB IPL 2021 1st match

After losing the toss and being asked to bat first, Mumbai Indians got off to a poor start with their skipper Rohit Sharma losing his wicket in the form of an unfortunate run out dismissal in the fourth over of the innings. The pair of Suryakumar Yadav and Chris Lynn then put up an impressive partnership of 70 runs for the second wicket. Lynn scored 49 runs off 35 balls in his debut game for the Mumbai Indians while Suryakumar contributed with 31 off 23 deliveries.

However, the star performer from the first innings was RCB pacer Harshal Patel who turned the game on its head by picking up a total of three wickets in the 20th over. Harshal also became the first bowler to pick up a five-wicket haul against Mumbai Indians in the history of the IPL. Mumbai Indians have posted a fighting total of 159 for 9. For RCB, Harshal took his maiden five-wicket haul while Kyle Jamieson and Washington Sundar finished with a wicket each.
