Bangabandhu T20 Cup is currently happening in Bangladesh. After 20 hard-fought matches, top four teams out of the overall five have qualified for the playoffs. On Monday, the business end of the tournament began and it was a fiercely fought contest as everyone expected.
Beximco Dhaka and Fortune Barishal faced each other in the eliminator on Monday in Dhaka. Captain Mushfiqur Rahim had a good time with the bat in the first innings while scoring a solid 43 off 30 balls. He was instrumental in putting up a decent score along with Yasir Ali and Akbar Ali but the highlight of the match came in the second innings while Mushfiqur Rahim was donning the wicket keeper gloves.
Mushfiqur Rahim losing his cool at his teammate Nasum Ahmed turned out to be the talking point of the game. The incident took place in the 17th over of the Fortune Barishal chase, when the game was nicely poised although it was slightly in favor of the fielding side. The Barishal Fortune needed 45 runs off 19 balls with half the side in the pavilion and Afif Hossain was middling the ball well.
When he tried a little scoop shot over the short fine-leg fielder for a cheap boundary, the ball looped up in the air. Wicket keeper Mushfiqur Rahim went for the catch and looked set to take it but he saw Nasum Ahmed running in from short file leg in his peripheral vision and almost collided with him. The captain luckily completed the catch but was visibly angry at his colleague for ignoring his call and pointed out that he was the man with the gloves and that it was obviously his catch to take.
In the end, Beximco Dhaka progressed through to the Qualifier2 where they will play tonight’s losers of Qualifier1. Either of Gazi Group Chattogram or Gemcon Khulna will be facing Mushfiqur Rahim’s side tomorrow.
