Pakistan cricket is almost synonymous with bowling. Right before this year’s Pakistan Super League was forced to stop due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the tournament saw some of the fiercest spells of fast bowling and some outstanding spin bowling. The tournament was forced to stop right after its league stages in March 2020. Now, with conditions slowly getting back to normalcy, the Pakistan Cricket Board has decided to carry on with the remainder of the 2020 season. As it turns out only four knockout matches including a final are what remains to be played. The entire squads of the four teams to participate in the playoffs have reached Karachi. All the remaining matches will be played here due to the travel restrictions imposed as a precautionary measure to stop the spread of COVID-19. As we head towards the final and most exciting phase of PSL 2020, let’s take a look at some of the leading wicket-takers from PSL 2020 league stages.

1. Mohammad Hasnain

Pakistan is a factory of pace bowlers. And rightly so, the man who dominated the league stages of their premier T20 competition was none other than their bright young prospect, Mohammad Hasnain. Playing for Quetta Gladiators he took 15 wickets from just 9 matches, that too at an outstanding average of 19.13. He also has picked up three 3-wicket hauls in the league stage, which is the most by any bowler in PSL 2020 so far. But to his disadvantage, his team hasn’t qualified for the playoffs, and hence the chances of him retaining this number one spot are very less as we head towards the knockouts.

2. Shaheen Afridi

The most hyped-up young Pakistan seamer has lived up to all expectations in PSL 2020. With 13 wickets to his name, he is just behind Hasnain in this race for most wickets. The fact that his team Lahore Qalandars has qualified for the playoffs, will work to his advantage on toppling Hasnain for the number one spot. His average of just over 18 and economy of 7.03 are outstanding numbers, considering the fact that, he is made to bowl the toughest overs for his team. This makes him a more deserving candidate than Hasnain to end up first in this list after the end of the tournament.

This veteran Pakistan seamer is still amongst the best in the country when it comes to T20 cricket. With 11 wickets to his name, he was one of Peshawar Zalmi’s lead performer in the league stages of the tournament. With his side qualifying for the playoffs, he is expected to add to this number in the coming matches.

4. Sohail Tanvir

Pakistan’s T20 freelancer is once again amongst the wickets in a major T20 competition. With 10 wickets to his name, he is joint fourth on the list along with Imran Tahir and Mohammad Amir. But a better economy allows him to be placed above the other two in this illustrious list. He has an unbelievable economy of 6.80 right throughout the tournament. His timely breakthroughs with the ball were one of the primary reasons for the Multan Sultan’s better performance in this edition of the PSL. As he is set to play the remainder of the tournament, he is expected to add up to his tally of wickets.

5. Imran Tahir

The lone spinner in this list of leading wicket-takers is former South African leg spinner Imran Tahir. He equals Tanvir on 10 wickets in the league stages and weighs above Mohammad Amir in terms of lesser matches played. He will be itching to get onto the field after being benched for the majority of the Indian Premier League. With his team securing a playoff spot, he is expected to add to his tally of wickets.
