The Sunrisers Hyderabad have a major setback in the quest for the qualification to playoffs stage in this year’s IPL 2020. Their star indian pace bowler Bhuvaneshwar Kumar has sustained a hip injury and is ruled out of the tournament.
The SRH management have decided to name Prithvi Raj as a replacement for Bhuvaneshwar Kumar. The injury to their leader of pace attack is certainly a big blow for the team but now they have to pick themselves up and rise to the occasion if they have dreams of making it to the playoffs stage. Tamil Nadu pacer Thangarasu Natarajan has just been an inspiration so far and has to lead the way.
Even though he’s new to the IPL center stage, he has to bear the responsibility of being the leader of the pace attack and perform as well as he has started. The likes of Khaleel Ahmed , Sandeep Sharma, Sidharth Kaul all have to rise up and potentially, the new replacement Prithvi Raj might also get a chance to shine for the franchise.
Kolkata Knight Riders bought Prithvi Raj in the 2019 IPL auction for Rs. 20 Lakh as one of the Indian uncapped players. Prithvi Raj represents Andhra state team in Ranji trophy which is his home state. He had a chance to play against his current teammates last season while turning up for KKR. Notably the left arm pacer picked up David Warner in that game which is his only wicket so far in his IPL career.
The departure of Bhuvaneshwar Kumar is not the first injury concern that SRH have had to deal with in this edition of IPL. They already lost Aussie all rounder Mitchell Marsh to an ankle injury and was out of the tournament. Jason Holder came into replace him and hasn’t had a game yet. Kane Williamson or Mohammed Nabi will be the fourth foreigner in the team and it’s tough to see Jason Holder getting a look in.
Similarly when there are already two left arm pacers in the form of Khaleel Ahmed and Thangarasu Natrajan it’s tough to break in to the side for newbie Prithvi Raj Yarra but we will see how the season progresses.
