Hailing from Jammu & Kashmir, right-arm medium pacer Umran Malik was roped in by the Sunrisers Hyderabad as a short-term replacement for T Natarajan who tested positive for Covid-19 earlier in this tournament. He hasn’t played a lot of competitive cricketer so far having taken a total of four wickets from four matches in domestic cricket for Jammu & Kashmir. Umran had a fabulous performance on his T20 debut picking three crucial wickets and gave away just 24 runs in his quota of four overs against Railways.
While playing in his debut IPL match, Umran Malik clocked 150 kmph off just his third delivery that was also the fastest ball by an Indian bowlers in the ongoing tournament. He has consistently clocked over 140 kmph in his first two overs against Kolkata Knight Riders. The commentators have also been really impressed with the 21-year-old’s abilities.
Umran Malik is just the fourth cricketer from Jammu & Kashmir to play in the Indian Premier League. The trio of Parvez Rasool, Abdul Samad and Rasikh Salam have already played in the IPL before Umran Malik.
