The third Test between India and Australia took place in Indore. As many experts said “one cannot write Australia off”, and they exactly lived up to that expectations and made a staggering comeback to pound India. They outclassed them in all three departments and won the game by 9 wickets to mark first win of the series.

India won the toss and opted to bat first but the decision backfired as they failed to get going and were bundled out for just 109 runs in the first innings with Virat Kohli top-scoring with 22 runs. Matthew Kuhnemann was the pick of the bowlers as he picked five-wicket haul to put his side in front seat.

Australian opener Usman Khawaja (60) then batted staggering well and smashed his second half-century of the season and gave his team a much desired start. He was complimented well by Marnus Labuschagne, who scored 30 runs.

But Indian bowlers came back strongly and on account of Ravindra Jadeja’s four-wicket haul and three-wicket hauls by Umesh Yadav and R Ashwin bundled them out for 197 runs.

Trailing the lead of 88 runs, Indian batters yet again struggled to get going. But Cheteshwar Pujara stood tall and smashed a gritty fifty to keep his side in the hunt. A valuable contributions from Shreyas Iyer (26), R Ashwin (16) and Axar Patel (15*) powered India to the total of 163 runs, setting Australia a target of just 76 runs.

Chasing the target, Australia lost Usman Khawaja on the second ball for duck. But after the Travis Head (49*) and Marnus Labuschagne (28*) opted for the aggressive approach and took their team home. The series now stands at 2-1.

Australian spinner Nathan Lyon was awarded Player of the Match in the third Test between India and Australia. The off-spinner bowled brilliantly and made mockery of Indian batters. He took three wickets in the first innings and then produced a magnificent effort in the second innings as he took 8 wickets to complete 11 wickets in the match.
