The Indian team will be making a comeback to the cricket field for the first time since that disappointing World Test Championship (WTC) final loss against Australia, as they will be touring West Indies in order to play 2 Tests, 3 ODIs and 5 T20I games. India tour of West Indies will kickstart with the opening Test match beginning from 12 July, 2023 at the Windsor Park in Roseau, Dominica. The newly appointed Chairman Selection Committee, Ajit Agarkar-led selection panel have recently announced India T20I squad for the five-match T20I series in West Indies.
India will definitely start with the duo of Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan as the two openers for the first T20I encounter against West Indies at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain, Trinidad on 4 August, 2023. After having earned his maiden call-up in the T20I team, Yashasvi Jaiswal is unlikely to find a place in the starting XI at this moment. Sanju Samson is very much likely to take up the No.3 slot and he will be donning the wicket-keeping gloves. India’s T20I vice-captain Suryakumar Yadav will bat at No.4 followed by skipper Hardik Pandya. It is very much expected that left-handed Tilak Varma will be making his T20I debut straightaway as he has the ability to play the finisher’s role.
The visitors have picked as many as four specialist spinners in their 15-member squad out of which Axar Patel becomes the first choice due to his all-round abilities. It is likely that right-arm leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal will be playing the first game ahead of Kuldeep Yadav and Ravi Bishnoi. The pace bowling attack will include the trio of Umran Malik, Avesh Khan and Arshdeep Singh.
