The important news update coming in is that West Indies swashbuckling batsman Nicholas Pooran is not available for selection in the three-match ODI series against India at home. The West Indies vs India 1st ODI match is scheduled to begin on 27 July, 2023 at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados. After a horrendous performance in the recent World Cup Qualifiers, West Indies have failed to qualify for this year’s 50-overs World Cup scheduled to take place in India.
Hosts West Indies recently announced a 15-member squad for the three-match ODI series against India at home and surprisingly, left-handed batsman Nicholas Pooran was not part of the national team. It was revealed that the swashbuckling wicket-keeper batsman was not available for selection. Incidentally, Pooran is currently playing for the MI New York team in the ongoing edition of the Major League Cricket (MLC). He is the second highest run-getter in the T20 tournament having scored an impressive tally of 227 runs from as many as 5 games at a phenomenal strike-rate of over 154 that includes a couple of fifties as well. However, the southpaw also smashed a total of 350 runs from 7 matches during the 2023 ODI World Cup Qualifiers in Zimbabwe.
The West Indies team will definitely miss the services of Nicholas Pooran in the IND vs WI 1st ODI match as he is quite an impactful batsman in white-ball cricket. The 27-year-old has scored close to 2,000 runs from 61 ODI matches at an average of nearly 40 that includes 11 fifties and 3 centuries.
