Nothing is going right for the Windies team in the Bangladesh Test series. After losing Jason Holder due to an injury, the team has now lost another pacer in the form of Shannon Gabriel as he has been suspended by ICC for the second Test for breaching the code of conduct for players.

Gabriel makes physical contact with Kayees, earns 2 demerit points

The Windies bowler made a shoulder contact with Bangladesh batsman Imrul Kayes in the eighth over of the first Test. Kayes was looking for a run and didn’t have Gabriel in his line of vision. The duo had a physical contact in the follow-through and for this, he received a warning from Umpire Aleem Dar.

However in his next over he reportedly nudged Kayees’ shoulder again and even had a verbal exchange with the batsman.

Gabriel’s demerit points now five, faces a one-match ban

For his behavior in the first Test, the Windies pacer has received two demerit points and also a fine of 30% in his match fees.

For this act, he was charged by the match’s umpires, Aleem Dar, Richard Illingworth, Ruchira Palliyaguruge and Masudur Rahman while match referee David Boon proposed the sanctions.

The pace bowler had already received three demerit points in 2017 for making a physical contact with Sarfaraz Ahmed. This means he now has five demerit points and according to ICC regulation, if a player reaches a tally of four demerit points within a 24-month period, he or she receives a suspension.

Thus, Windies now have lost two of their best pace bowlers for different reasons and this will thin their bowling strength considerably in the second Test which begins on November 30.
