Dehradun, February 23, Saturday at 06:30 PM IST
A convincing 5 wickets win in the first T20I helped Afghanistan take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series who will be now looking to gain an unassailable lead when both the sides will reload at Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, Dehradun, Uttarakhand for the second T20I on Saturday evening.
The middle order and bowlers were instrumental in the 5 wickets win of Afghanistan who chased down 133 runs target set by Ireland with four balls to spare. Having opted to bat first, Ireland were in deep trouble having reduced to 74-6 a time but a timely partnership between S Poynter and George Dockrell helped the side post a respectable total of 123/6 at the end of 20 overs. M Nabi and R Khan were the keys in bowlers as both returned with 2 wickets each.
Coming to chase, Afghanistan did face some early jolts and at one time were struggling at 50/5 but Mohammad Nabi (49* of 40) and Najibullah Zadran (40* of 36) in the middle order guided the side to 5 wickets win with four balls to spare. Afghanistan would be looking to capitalize the momentum and seal the three-matches series with another win.
The T20I series will be followed with 5 match ODI series which will start from February 28, Saturday. Both the teams will also play a solitary test from March 15-19 as their last assignment. All the matches including ODIs and Test will be played at the same ground- Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, Dehradun, Uttarakhand.

Fantasy picks from Afghanistan
All-rounders and bowlers will be instrumental for Afghanistan, especially M Nabi and R Khan.
M Nabi has continued his BBL form and will play a crucial role with both bat and ball
Rashid Khan will always be the trump card for Afghanistan on any day. He returned with 2-21 in the first T20I and similar performance can be expected again.
In batters, H Zazai and skipper Asghar Afghan will have to provide a stable start in absence of M Shahzad.
Fantasy picks from Ireland
George Dockrell, Stuart Poynter, Paul Stirling, Kevin O Brien, Simi Singh and Boyd Rankin are the names Ireland will be banking on.
Skipper Paul Stirling gave a good start at the top in his 23 of 25 deliveries knock but failed to convert it in the first T20I
George Dockrell and Stuart Poynter batted brilliantly well in the first game down the middle order
Boyd Rankin, Peter Chase and J Little will be the key in bowling. Ranking returned with 2-39 in the first T20Is.
