In the first ODI, Captain Pat Cummins was the difference between the two sides. It was the perfect example of ‘captain leading from the front’ as he showcased composure under pressure to guide Australia through a tense chase. In a game dominated by the bowlers, it was Cummins with the bat who stole the show.
Australia’s innings saw promise as Josh Inglis and Steve Smith took control after early jolts, in what looked like a comfortable chase. However, a fiery spell from Haris Rauf turned the game on its head and Australia were in all sorts of discomfort at 155/7. Then came, Cummins and Starc’s resilience to salvage a tense win.
Despite the loss, Pakistan will be happy with the fightback and pushing Australia to the very end. Haris Rauf’s brilliant spell and a fine support from Shaheen Afridi and Mohammad Hasnain made Aussie slip from a commanding position. However, they will look to do better with the bat and shoulder responsibility with the bowling unit.
The Adelaide Oval is known for high-scoring matches in Australia. It offers extract bounce and movement early on and some turn as the game progresses. However, the balanced pitch at this venue keeps both batters and bowlers in the contest.
In the last ODI played at the venue back in 2022, a target of 288 was chased down with more than 3 overs to spare. This indicates the wicket is likely to batting friendly again.
