After a month of pulsating white-ball cricket across the country, we are finally down to the knockout stage of the 2018 Vijay Hazare Trophy.

The second quarter-final will see Delhi square off against Haryana at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

Delhi has been imperious in the tournament thus far. The Gambhir-led unit finished at the second spot in the Elite Group A & B with six wins in eight games with a cumulative 26 points.

Delhi’s batting has been the cornerstone of their success in the ongoing edition. They have won their last four games by a margin of 165, 73, 75 and 44 runs respectively highlighting the might of their batting unit.

Skipper Gambhir has led his team from the front The former Indian batsman has racked up 386 runs in seven games at an average of 55.14 including a hundred and a half century. Besides Gambhir, Himmat Singh (198 runs at 99.00), Nitish Rana (286 runs at 57.30) and Dhruv Shorey (236 runs at 39.33) have scored consistently setting the platform for the shenanigans of their bowlers to take over.

The bowling department too has been well led by the likes of Lalit Yadav (12 wickets at 22.41), Pawan Negi (7 wickets at 24.56)and Manan Sharma (10 wickets at 27.20) while Kulwant Khejroliya chipped in with a four-fer against Chattisgarh in the last match.

Haryana

Harayana, meanwhile, sealed their quarter-final spot with a dominant 77-run win over Tamil Nadu in their final league stage game.

Himanshu Rana, as he has done throughout the tournament was at the heart of his teams’ win as he scored a 76-ball-89 to power Haryana to an eventual match-winning score of 5-310.

Like Delhi’s batting, Haryana’s bowling has been the cornerstone of their success in the 2018 edition. The quartet of Jayant Yadav (10 wickets at 19.60), Chaprana (8 wickets at 16.87), Rahul Tewatia (11 wickets at 14.54) and the vile Amit Mishra (16 wickets at 17.12) have consistently created a stranglehold around the opposition batsmen throughout the tournament, bowling teams’ out for 81 (Assam), 108 (Jammu & Kashmir) respectively.

The batting department too is well led by Himanshu Rana (284 runs at 47.33), Chandila (258 runs at 47.33) and Chaitanya Bishnoi (225 runs at 37.50).

But, at the end of the day, it will be a battle between Delhi’s batting might and Haryana’s supreme bowling unit and whoever comes first will certainly take his team to the semi-finals.
