Dublin, May 3, Friday at 10:45 AM IST
England is all set to kick- off its 2019 World Cup preparations with a solitary One Day International (ODI) match against Ireland at the Malahide Cricket Club (The Village) in Dublin on Friday. In the previous two outings at the venue (2013, 2015), the visitors were undefeated.
Despite the home conditions, the results at this venue might create some head-scratching as Ireland have won only two matches out of 13 which they have hosted since 2013. But in the upcoming match against one of the best ODI sides, Ireland would like to turn their fortunes around with a win.
In the last outing between both the teams in 2017 at Lord’s, England thrashed Ireland by 85 runs where Jonny Bairstow, skipper Eoin Morgan and Man of the Match Joe Root played a major role.
But for the upcoming match, England have rested Jos Buttler, Jonny Bairstow, Moeen Ali and Mark Wood. Jason Roy and Sam Billings failed to make the cut due to their respective injuries.
Ireland, on the other hand, have included two uncapped players Lorcan Tucker and Josh Little in their 14 member squad which is led by William Porterfield. Ireland’s experienced wicketkeeper Gary Wilson, who will be playing his 100th ODI on Friday has been recalled to the squad. He missed the Afghanistan tour due to a medical condition.
Head-to-head (Last five ODIs):
No Result: 1
Like always, this pitch should favour the pacers. There are some chances of rain but it will not hamper the game much.
