England has changed the face of test cricket in recent times, their approach with the bat is what’s made the difference and the results are there to see. Their last tour was against New Zealand in New Zealand, they won the first test by a mammoth 267 runs. Harry Brook, the new revelation of England was the player of the match as he scored a sublime 89 in the 1st innings and 54 in the 2nd. James Anderson, Ollie Robinson, and Stuart Broad did all the damage with the ball as the visitors go 1-0 up in the series.
The second test was a thriller, some unbelievable cricket was played throughout 5 days and the game went down the wire but this time New Zealand held on to their nerve to pull off a 1-run win by the barest of margins. Kane Williamson was the hero for the hosts. However, it was Harry Brook who continued to dominate with the bat, scoring 186 along with Joe Root who clobbered 153 runs as well to set up a big first innings total. Anderson and co once again rattled the hosts and bundled out cheaply for 209 and asked them to follow on.
That is where the test match took a U-turn as New Zealand was brought back from the dead by Kane Williamson’s century and England was looking to chase a total of over 250 in the final day. Joe Root once again stood tall and England continued with their attacking approach but they kept losing wickets and failed to score that one 1 run in the end as they square the series.
Ireland toured Sri Lanka for a two-match test series, things didn’t work out very well as they lost the series 2-0. However, Ireland taking baby steps in the test arena meaning, they can be proud of what they’ve achieved in the last 18 months. Lorcan Tucker and Harry Tector were impressive with the bat in the first test.
In the second test, we got to see Ireland fought hard to pull off 492 in the first innings, centuries from Paul Stirling, and Curtis Campher. Andy Balbirnie missed out on the century and Lorcan Tucker’s 80. In the second innings chasing a 212 deficit, Ireland was bowled for 202. Harry Tector scored an impressive 85 but the rest of the batting crumbled through. Ireland should be mighty pleased by that effort as they have plenty of batters around who show promise to play this England attack.
