Burnie, December 08, Saturday at 08:30 AM IST
Hobart Hurricanes will be eyeing to open their WBBL account when they face Melbourne Stars at Burnie in the upcoming encounters. Having fallen short of three balls remaining, Hurricanes faced 6 wickets defeat against Scorchers in their opening fixture while defending 143 on board.
They will be boosted with the joining of three international stars in the likes of Smriti Mandhana- Indian opener, Heather Knight- English skipper, and Hayley Matthews – Windies star all-rounder. All the three missed the opening encounter and are fully set to feature against Melbourne Stars. A 13-member squad has been released by Hurricanes ahead of the clash to face Stars.
Melbourne Stars registered seven wickets win over Sydney Sixers in the opening encounter and would be hoping to carry the momentum. In response to Sydney Sixers’ 165-7 on board, Stars rode on Lizelle Lee’s blistering knock of 102* off just 56 deliveries and achieved the target in 17.2 overs with 7 wickets in hand.
Stars have decided to go with the same combination after registering a convincing win in the opening fixture and have named an unchanged squad for Burnie clash.

In batting, S Mandhana and Heather Knight are set to play their first game of the season. They are must-have options. Apart from the two, Mignon Du Preez and S Daffara will be better picked.
Mignon du Preez returned unbeaten on 33 in the first encounter.
In all-rounder, S Moloney and E Osborne will be perfect.
Hayley Matthews is fit to play. It will be purely on management to give her a chance or not.
In bowling, Alex Hartley, B Hepburn, H Ferling and Nicola Hancock will be right choices.
**Here we are taking chance on Hayley Mathews by picking her as vice-captain.
**Note: She is a bit doubtful starter.
