KKR vs CSK MPL Team: Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings – Both teams haven’t hit the straps hard managing only two wins so far from 4 and 5 matches respectively. Both teams have some similarities with a misfiring top-order and a toothless spin attack. CSK’s opening troubles were solved a bit after Watson and Du Plessis put on a match-winning 181 run stand against KXIP, while the dynamic batting order of KKR failed to chase down a steep target of 229 against DC. The overall head-to-head record favours CSK with 14 wins from 22 matches against the Shahrukh owned franchise.
Kolkata Knight Riders have one of the most dynamic batting units this IPL with the likes of Gill, Rana, DK, Morgan and Russell. But they haven’t fired in unison which has troubled KKR. The reluctance to drop Narine as a pinch-hitter is hurting KKR with his short ball weakness being apparent and he consumes valuable deliveries upfront at the PowerPlay without much returns. Their bowling attack too has been on and off with Mavi and V Chakravarthy being impressive while the likes of Cummins, Nagarkoti and Narine haven’t been consistent at all. Russell and D Karthik haven’t been at their belligerent best and this match against CSK provides them with an opportunity to return back to form.
Chennai Super Kings seemed like a lost unit with 3 consecutive losses after their win against MI in the season opener, but S Watson and Du Plessis put on a batting masterclass chasing the target of 180 without losing a single wicket. But that win masked a lot of their troubles with fielding being one. Dhoni has always acknowledged that his side can never be an extraordinary fielding unit due to their ages but can strive to be a safe fielding side taking the catches that come their way and not making many fumbles. But they have been dropping catches a lot this season which hurt them in the match against SRH. Their middle-order too hasn’t come good so far and it will be interesting to watch how they hold up against the pace attack of KKR.
Fixture: Kolkata Knight Riders vs Chennai Super Kings, Match 21, IPL 2020
Date & Time: Wednesday, 7th October 2020 at 7:30 pm (IST)
Venue: Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium, Abu Dhabi
Venue Stats: The average first innings score at Abu Dhabi in the last 3 years has been 138 with 166 being the highest score ever chased. Pacers have been more successful than the spinners at this venue. The teams batting first have won the majority of the matches at this venue.
Pitch Report: The pitch from the match against MI vs RR will be used for this game and it should slow down as the innings progresses. Abu Dhabi doesn’t provide much turn which makes the spinners a bit ineffective while hit the deck pacers will love bowling at this deck due to the large square boundaries.
Team news: KKR dropped an out-of-form Kuldeep Yadav to bring in R Tripathi who impressed lower down the order. But with the opening failures of Narine, they could slot Tripathi at the top but the backing Narine has from McCullum makes it hard.
CSK finally put up a good opening stand with Watson coming back to form. Their bowling lacks superstars but Dhoni’s resource management skills almost compensate for it. One thing they would like is to get some contributions from the middle-order.
Expected changes- KKR will field the same eleven as against DC.
CSK should go unchanged for this match.
Underperformers/risky picks: K Nagarkoti is a special talent but he’s been sort of underutilized by often under-bowling him which directly affects his fantasy points.
K Jadhav doesn’t provide much fantasy value with his role in CSK and also his current form. He comes in early if there’s a quick loss of wickets or is demoted when the team gets a good start.
The predicted XIs for the KOL vs CHE MPLfantasy cricket tips are as follows:
KOL Playing XI (predicted):
CHE Playing XI (predicted):
Faf Du Plessis
MS Dhoni (C & WK)
A Russell – He hasn’t been in great form but CSK presents a chance for him to shine with the bat due to the lack of hit the deck pacers who could trouble him. His bowling points can come handy too in KKR vs CSK today match prediction.
Faf Du Plessis – He is one of the best players of raw pace in this CSK lineup and KKR has it in the form of Cummins, Russell and the two Indian pacers who can all hit 140s. He’s also the 2nd highest run-scorer this IPL with 282 runs from 5 matches.
A Rayudu – He started the season well with a match-winning knock against MI in the first match but got unfortunately got injured and missed the next 3 games. He did get only one chance to bat since his comeback and will be itching to score.
S Gill – The young Punjabi batsman has been decent enough at the top scoring 152 runs from 4 games this season. There aren’t many threats for him in the CSK bowling unit which boosts his chances of scoring high.
D Bravo – He was impressive since his comeback with his slow-ball variations and with him bowling at the death, there are more chances of him picking some wickets.
S Narine – His batting might’ve let him down but his bowling is still good to counter the CSK batsman against whom he has been successful taking 13 wickets at a strike-rate of 20.00
