The five-nation tournament -ACC Western T20 2019 kick-starts tomorrow with the Maldives taking on the hosts Kuwait in the tournament opener tomorrow morning. A 14-member squad has been named by Maldives Cricket Board ahead of the tournament to take on Kuwait along with Bahrain, Qatar and Saudi Arabia. All the five nations took part in the ICC World T20 Asia ‘A’ qualifiers earlier this year and are well aware of the conditions in Kuwait.
All the eleven matches including the final on January 24 will have official T20I status as it will be the T20I debut for the all the countries. Maldives are coming after taking part in training and practice sessions at Lahore’s National Cricket Academy and have also played five T20 games against NCA development squad and local squads.
A 14-member squad has also been named by Kuwait selectors from the list of 30 probable. The squad looks balanced with the likes of skipper Mohammad Ameen, Diju Xavier and Arjun Makesh in the batting line up while Imran-Ali-Junior, Yasir Butt and Fiaz Ahmad will form the bowling attack.
