In the current Indian T20 League, Lucknow will face Chennai in match number seven. Both teams have just suffered a setback. Lucknow, captained by KL Rahul, was defeated by Gujarat, a newcomer. Chennai, captained by Ravindra Jadeja, was defeated by Kolkata.
The performance of both teams’ top-order hitters was a recurring problem in their initial game. Both sides struggled to get off to a good start on the powerplay and were never able to put up a significant total that they could defend. Chennai were beaten by a spirited Kolkata, while Lucknow were thrashed by a clinical Gujarat effort led by Hardik Pandya.
Lucknow, while seeming to be one of the most balanced sides in the ongoing season on paper, struggled in their first encounter on several fronts. Despite losing to a spirited Gujarat team, the KL Rahul-led side did have a few things to take away from the encounter.
Deepak Hooda’s all-round performance and Ayush Badoni’s fifty in his league debut gave Lucknow supporters something to cheer about in an otherwise forgettable encounter. The middle order played well for the Lucknow franchise, but they were up against an inexperienced bowling attack in Chennai.
Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway failed to get Chennai off to a good start in the powerplay, while Robin Uthappa, a seasoned campaigner, failed to convert the stars he had. With the bat, skipper Ravindra Jadeja seemed a shell of himself, while former captain MS Dhoni’s unbroken fifty and finishing touches in the dying overs helped Chennai achieve a respectable total.
Chennai’s top-order will be seeking to put up a stronger display against Lucknow. Moeen Ali’s availability for selection in the starting lineup will be a huge boost for the Yellow Brigade. Chennai will also be expecting for improved bowling and more courageous captaincy from Jadeja.
Only two of the eight T20 games played at Brabourne Stadium have been won by the team batting first. Teams batting second, on the other hand, have won six times in their history. As a result, bowling first at the Brabourne Stadium Mumbai is often the preferable option.
