Match: Mumbai vs Punjab, Indian T20 League
Date: 13th April, 2022
Time: 07:30 PM IST
Venue: Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune
The two most decorated teams of the Indian T20 League will eventually face off on 13th April. The match between Mumbai and Punjab is the perfect match for the ones that love hard-hitting on the pitch. This season, Mumbai has done little to entertain its fans. However, Mumbai’s opener Ishan Kishan has been consistently performing with this bat. Kishan has hit 175 runs which consists of two half-centuries. Other than Kisha, the Mumbai team’s batting lineup is struggling a lot.
Meanwhile, Punjab is doing better than the five-time title winners. Mayank Agarwal’s team is at number seven at the points table. After having a couple of rough games, Punjab is back in action. Bowler Rahul Chahar has been a highlight for the team. He has picked seven wickets in his last four games. Interestingly, both the teams have played each other 29 times where Mumbai emerged victorious 15 times.
The Mumbai supporters have experienced nothing but disappointment so far this season. The team has lost four matches in a row, and is at number nine spot at the points table. The team is evidently struggling with finding the perfect blend of eleven players.
Skipper Rohit Sharma’s off-key performance in the last four matches have concerned the fans. However, the only ‘consistent’ player in Mumbai is Ishan Kishan. The left-hand batsman has struck two half-centuries so far in the tournament. Currently, Kishan has 175 runs in his pocket with an average of 58.33.
On paper, Mumbai’s bowling lineup has one of the most lethal bowlers. However, the bowling division is suffering as well. Star-bowler Jasprit Bumrah proved costly in his first four matches.
Team Punjab has struck the perfect balance of eleven players. Mayank Agarwal’s young team has won two out of its four matches. All-rounder Liam Livingstone has shone brilliantly this season. Livingstone scored a quick knock of 64 runs off 27 balls against Gujarat. Shikhar Dhawan also scored 35 runs in the last match. However, the opening batting duo still needs to work on their chemistry.
Rahul Chahar has really impressed the fans this season so far. Chahar has picked seven wickets so far. Star-bowler Kagiso Rabada is slowly getting back to his former self. He picked two wickets in the last match against Gujarat.
The Pune wicket is known to favour the batting side more. So far, the team winning the toss is choosing to bowl first as in the second innings, the batters get a lot of help from the wicket. However, the spin bowlers also get a bit of turn because of the dew factor that comes into play later in the match.
