India Women vs New Zealand Women Match Preview | Who Will Win Today Match

Auckland, February 08, Friday at 07:30 AM IST

Smriti Mandhana’s fastest T20I fifty in Women’s cricket went in vain as India Women lost the first T20I by 23 runs while chasing 159 runs target after a perfect start. After a commendable batting performance by the hosts which helped them post 159/4 on the board in 20 overs, the visitors were very well in control till the 15th over but losing 9 wickets for 34 runs eventually helped White Ferns to take a lead of 1-0 in the series. At one time, India Women were 102-1 and required 49 runs in 36 balls with nine wickets in hand but the wicket of Smriti Mandhana triggered the collapse which finally saw them bowled out for 136 in 19.1 overs.

Both the sides will now travel to Auckland for their next clash on Friday. With New Zealand ahead in the series by 1-0, India needs to win both the remaining games to seal series. Both the teams will lock horns in the second T20I at Eden Park, Auckland on Friday morning which will be followed with the final game at Seddon Park, Hamilton on February 10, Sunday.

For the hosts, Sophie Devine (62 of 48) was the top contributor with the bat while S Mandhana (58 of 34) and J Rodrigues (39 of 33) were in the runs against White Ferns. Lea Tahuhu was the star with the ball, finishing at 3-20. Amelia Kerr (2-28) was also crucial with the ball.

In the second game, India might rope in experienced Mithali Raj in the middle order to get some stability. The lack of character and inability to soak pressure was clearly visible at the Wellington and the side would be looking to work on it. For the hosts, Bernadine Bezuidenhout gets ruled out of the series after fracturing her finger in the practice session.
