Wellington scored a modest total of 191 in the first innings versus Auckland, as the total was chased down with 11 overs to spare and four wickets in hand.

Meanwhile, Otago started off with a win against the Northern Districts through the D/L method.  A hundred by Nick Kelly ensured that Otago got to a first innings score of 282. The Northern Districts on the other end could only manage 226 for the fall of eight wickets before rain interruption.
