Match: Punjab vs Hyderabad, Indian T20 League
Date: 17th April, 2022
Time: 03:30 PM IST
Venue: Dr DY Patil Sports Academy, Mumbai
The young side of Punjab have turned many heads so far in the season. Punjab defeated the five-time title winner, Mumbai in their last game with their brilliant performance with the bat and the bowl. Meanwhile, Hyderabad is writing its own story of comeback. Recently, Hyderabad put on a great performance in their last game against Kolkata.
Both the teams have found their momentum and it looks like the battle between the two will be one to watch out for. Punjab is at number spot at the points table and Hyderabad is on number seven with two wins in their bag.
After having a rocky start to this season of Indian T20 League, Punjab has found itself sitting at the number four spot. The team has won three matches out of their five matches in total. All-rounder Liam Livingstone has been a key player for the team as he scores important runs and also takes crucial wickets with the white bowl in the middle overs. Till now, Livingstone has scored 164 runs for the team. Openers Mayank Agarwal and Shikhar Dhawan have found their tune in recent matches. The pair added 112 crucial runs in the match against Mumbai.
All-rounder Odean Smith put on a great performance with the bowl in the last match. Smith picked four wickets in the last match and gave away 30 runs in the process. Kagiso Rabada and youngster Vaibhav Arora bagged three wickets in total for the team.
Hyderabad stock’s continue to rise up as the team is on a victory roll winning three back-to-back matches in this year’s Indian T20 League. The batting unit of the Deccan city has improved dramatically since the start of this season. In the last match when the openers Abhishek Verma (3 runs) and Kane Williamson (17 runs) failed to deliver the runs, the middle order stepped up to the fans’ expectations. Batters Rahul Tripathi (71 runs) and Aiden Markram (68 runs) added valuable 139 runs on the board. Eventually, it was the partnership between these two that ushered Hyderabad towards winning the match.
The bowling unit is also showing multiple signs of improving. T Natarajan took three important runs for the team. He only gave away 37 runs in his four overs. Additionally, Umran Malik also plucked two wickets in the last match. However, the fans are concerned about the dangling form of veteran Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Kumar just picked one wicket against Kolkata. Surely, he must be practising his bowling in the nets and will show his skills in the next match.
Dr DY Patil Sports Academy of Mumbai has always been a batting pitch. However, given the trend of this year’s Indian T20 League, the toss-winning captain has chosen to bowl first. Surprisingly, bowling second on the pitch has reaped benefits for the bowling team. With that being said, scoring 170 runs is a decent score for this wicket.
