Sri Lanka go head-to-head against Afghanistan in the 3rd ODI at Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium, Hambantota on 7th June, Sunday at 10:00 AM IST.
After Sri Lanka were stunned in the first game, they brought back the right resources like Wanindu Hasaranga and Dushmantha Chameera who made an instant impact to win them the game and square the series in the second ODI. With the series on the line, their batters stepped up to put up a total of over 300 and then the bowlers stuck to their task to keep them from reaching the target. Nissanka and Karunaratne provided a good solid start and then Mendis built on that to put up partnerships with other batters. Later down the order, Hasaranga and Shanaka ensured they finished well with a flurry.
Afghanistan were ordinary with the ball, it was a toothless bowling performance with the ace bowler missing in the side, a lot of problems opened up, and something that they need to address in this game. Pretty much every bowler went in excess of over 6 runs per over. When it comes to the run chase, Afghanistan didn’t show enough intent to put pressure on the Sri Lankan bowlers, Gurbaz once again perished early and disappointed the fans.
While Ibrahim Zadran wasn’t going after the bowlers and the pressure was always building. Hashmatullah Shahidi was the only batter that looked like making an impact as he kept hitting the boundaries. But once Ibrahim Zadran perished, Afghanistan fell like a pack of cards. Being from 146-2, they crashed to 191 as they got bowled out and then lost the game by a hefty 132 runs.
