Sri Lanka and Bangladesh are all set for the series decider. The first ODI went Sri Lanka’s way, but the hosts bounced back brilliantly in the second ODI to make it 1-1 in the three-match ODI series. Now the two teams are all set for the final showdown at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Pallekele on the 8th of July.
The hosts were clinical in the first ODI at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, as they notched up a convincing 77-run victory. Skipper Charith Asalanka led from the front with a brilliant 106 off 123 deliveries. His century helped Sri Lanka score a formidable 244. The score wasn’t a gigantic one, but Sri Lanka was on spot with the ball as they skittled out Bangladesh for a mere 167, courtesy of a 4-fer from Wanindu Hasaranga and a 3-fer from Kamindu Mendis.
Bangladesh was down and out in the first ODI. However, they bounced back with a hard-fought 16-run victory in the second ODI. Batting first, Bangladesh posted 248 on the back of twin fifties from opener Parvez Hossain Emon (67 off 69) and Towhid Hridoy (51 off 69). In reply, the hosts, Sri Lanka, were on course for the chase but kept losing wickets at regular intervals. In the end, it was the left-arm spinner Shamim Hossain’s first-ever fifer in only his 2nd ODI appearance that did all the damage. Shamim’s 5 for 39 off 10 overs helped Bangladesh recover from the loss in the first ODI and make it 1-1 in the three-match series.

In 59 ODI meetings, Sri Lanka leads the head-to-head battle handsomely. The host nation has won 44 out of 59 encounters, whereas Bangladesh has 13 wins to their name. Two matches ended in a no-result.
The pitch at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium for the 3rd ODI between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh is expected to offer a balanced contest between bat and ball. Early in the innings, fast bowlers are likely to enjoy some swing and seam movement thanks to the fresh surface and slightly overcast conditions. However, as the match progresses, the pitch tends to settle, making stroke play easier for batters. The surface is dry underneath, which means spinners could come into play during the middle overs, especially if the ball grips and turns. Historically, teams batting first have had a slight edge here, with the average first innings score hovering around 260. That said, dew in the evening could tilt the advantage toward the chasing side.
