Sri Lanka vs England, 3rd Test | SL vs ENG WHO WILL WIN

England’s 2-0 triumph over Sri Lanka can be at best put to precise planning, relentless aggression and searing consistency. Ditching their perennial defensive mindset especially in Asian conditions, England led by Joe Root took the attack on the Sri Lankan spinners (Read:- sweep + reverse-sweep) .

Apart from their attacking mindset with the bat, England moved away from their reliance on seamers to bail them out in adverse conditions. They dropped Stuart Broad and blooded in debutant Jack Leach to form a troika of spinners alongside Ali and Rashid. Leech gave Root a much-needed control when the batting conditions got easier, taking the pressure off Moeen Ali and Rashid.

And taking of English spinners, it has to be said that while they’ve bowled well, Sri Lankan batting lacklustre. While the absence of skipper Chandimal has played a huge role, the likes of Kusal Mendis, Kaushal Silva and Dickwella have not been able to step up and provide support to Angelo Matthews and Dimuth Karunaratne.

They’ll be without Akila Dhananjaya for this game whose action has been reported and will be replaced by Nishan Peris.

The last time Sri Lanka were whitewashed at their home ground by a non-Asian side was way back in 2004 (by Australia), and to avoid the encore, they’ll require a complete team effort.
