Sri Lanka go head-to-head against Ireland in the 1st Test of the Two Test Match Series here in Galle International Stadium, Galle starting on Sunday, 16th April at 10:00 AM IST.
Sri Lanka are coming at the back of a series loss against New Zealand in New Zealand. The first test is where they put up a fight. It went down to the wire of where Kane Williamson’s century separated them in the end. Sri Lanka needed to pick up two wickets in the end which they failed to do. In the second test, they went down badly, it was an innings defeat. It was a dismal batting effort in the first innings. Much better turn around in the second innings but it was too much to do as they were following on.
Ireland on the other hand are playing their first ever Test series against Sri Lanka. Ireland just finished their only test match against Bangladesh. They were without the services of Paul Stirling but he’s going to be missing out the first test here too. However, Ireland had impressive performances from the likes of Harry Tector, Andy McBrine and Lorcan Tucker which they’ll look to carry forward into this test series.

The pitch at Galle is usually spin friendly. The ball usually tends to grip off the surface, spinners will play significant role throughout the test. Batters will have to stay alert all the time, lapse in concentration might end up being the demise for them.
Good thing for the batters is, they need to get acclimatized to the conditions and once they are in, they make the most of the conditions and make it a big one. Teams batting first have won most of the time. Average first innings score on this track is 361.
