Ngidi and Tahir made it tough for Sri Lanka

Earlier in the day, it was Sri Lanka who were put into bat after Proteas skipper Faf du Plessis won the toss. Sri Lanka had the worst possible start as lost their openers inside 4 overs for a score of 23 on the board.

Lungi Ngidi was the one to initiate the damage which was later apprehended by Imran Tahir in the middle overs. Sri Lanka had two good partnerships in the middle in the form of Kusal Perera and Oshada Fernando’s 76 for the third wicket and later it was Dhananjaya de Silva and Kusal Mendis stand for 94 runs for the fifth wicket.

Imran Tahir was causing problems for the batsmen in the middle overs bowling some tight overs and taking wickets at regular intervals. He removed the dangerous looking trio of Kusal Mendis, Kusal Perera and Dhananjaya de Silva which completely broke the backbone of Sri Lanka and eventually they could only manage 231 runs on the board.
