The first semi-final will be played between Vidarbha and Kerala at Krishnagiri Stadium, Wayanad in Kerala while Saurashtra will lock horns with Karnataka in the 2nd semi-final at the iconic M.Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Both the semifinals will start on Thursday, January 24, 2019, at 09:30 AM IST. The final of the trophy will start on February 03, Sunday with the venue yet not decided.

Vidarbha

The reigning champions, Vidarbha booked a place for semi-final after defeating Uttarakhand by an innings and 115 runs in the first quarter-final played at Nagpur. Put into bat first, Uttarakhand posted 355 runs in the first innings. In response, Vidarbha scored 629 runs in their first innings, courtesy Wasim Jaffer’s double century along with Sanjay Ramaswamy’s 141 and Aditya Sarwate’s 102. In the second innings, Uttarakhand was bowled out for 159 runs. Umesh Yadav (5/23) and Aditya Sarvate (5/55) were instrumental in booking Uttarakhand for mere 159 runs in the second innings.

Kerala

Kerala secured their maiden semi-final birth after a thumping 113 runs win over Gujarat in the fourth quarter-final at Wayanad, Kerala.  Put into bat first, Kerala scored 185-9 in the first innings while Gujarat fell short by 23 runs and was bowled out for 162 in their first innings. Sandeep Warrior (4-42), Basil Thampi (3-61) and MD Nidheesh (3-38) were the key in bowling for Kerala.

In the second innings, Kerala scored 171 with the help of S Joseph’s fifty and Jalaj Saxena’s unbeaten 44 while Gujarat succumbed at paltry 81. Basil Thampi (5-27) and S Warrier (4-30) were instrumental in dismantling Gujarat in the second innings.

This is the first time that the Kerala team has entered the last four stage of the Ranji Trophy, let’s watch how far they go.
