ENG vs IND live

Rishabh Pant‘s struggles behind the stumps are well-established. And it seems the Indian wicket-keeper hasn’t improved yet as he missed a regulation stumping chance against England player Jack Leach off R Ashwin‘s bowling. Pant fumbling behind the stumps isn’t a novel sight but what made this incident amusing was that just after some time, R Ashwin himself gave Pant some tips on how to complete a proper stumping.

England resumed their batting on the third day of the first IND vs ENG Test at Chennai. In the 187th over of the innings, Jack Leach tried to go down the pitch against Ashwin. However, the bowler smartly pulled his length back and outfoxed Leach.

The turn and the bounce was too much to handle for Leach and Pant had a simple stumping opportunity. But he too was done in by the bounce and failed to gather the ball cleanly. Thus, Leach was able to return to the crease safely while Ashwin was left fuming. One ball later, the Indian wicket-keeper failed to understand Ashwin’s carrom-ball variation and missed collecting the ball which resulted in 4 byes.

The missed stumping didn’t cost India dearly as 3 overs later the off-spinner castled James Anderson to finish England’s innings.

As Indian players were walking back to the dressing room, Ashwin was seen chatting with Pant. The Indian spinner was giving tips to Pant about his bowling variations and was probably sharing some advice on collecting balls cleanly.
