After the humiliating 60 run loss to their hosts at Southampton which has resulted in India losing the whole series, many fans and experts have raised their voices as to who might be responsible for this. Many of the players were blamed and so was captain Kohli. Now people are questioning the supporting staff of the Indian team.

Mohammad Azharuddin, former captain of the Indian team said that they should’ve been one more member of the supporting staff that could’ve prevented the team from making the same mistakes over and over again.

Azhar said that the team lost the series due to poor batting and that the batsmen were making the same mistakes over and over again. He asks where were the coaching staff and why didn’t they prepare the batsmen better?

He described the entire play by the team as poorly planned. He said that everyone was dependent on Kohli, the middle order was left with too much to do. The openers didn’t get many runs. All this was signs of poor planning. He also mentioned that after Pujara got his century in the 4th Test match the team should’ve kept the lead to over a 100 runs.

Azhar did praise the bowlers by saying they were always on point and ready. In every game, they were able to get 20 wickets. This was what gave our team a chance. As for the batsmen, Azhar believes that they could’ve done better.

Azhar put most of the blame on the batsmen and said they gifted wickets to the spinners. Even though the target wasn’t huge, the batsmen lost very easily. Azhar even commented that Ashwin wasn’t quite effective in the 4th Test.

Lastly, Azhar praised Kohli’s batting but said that the whole line up of batsmen needs to compliment their captain. He can’t do all the work, it is a team game and everyone needs to contribute.
