These players are Aaron Finch, Chris Morris, Dale Steyn, Isuru Udana, Moeen Ali, Pawan Negi, Gurkeerat Singh Mann, Shivam Dube, Parthiv Patel and Umesh Yadav.
Apart from the released players, there were some players who were retained too. This was expected from the team as these players form the core of the squad. These names also include those who will be a crucial part of the team in the future. RCB IPL 2021 retained players are given below:
Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, Yuzvendra Chahal, Devdutt Padikkal, Navdeep Saini, Washington Sundar, Mohammed Siraj, Adam Zampa, Shahbaz Ahmed, Josh Philippe, Kane Richardson and Pavan Deshpande.
RCB team 2021 captain is Virat Kohli. He has been leading the side since 2013. Kohli has been a prolific run scorer not only for his team, but overall too. Kohli is also India’s captain in all formats and is a run-machine in both international cricket and IPL. In 2016 IPL, Kohli broke all records by scoring 973 runs in a single edition of IPL which included 4 hundreds. RCB finished as runners-up of this season.
In IPL 2021 though, Kohli didn’t have such a great season with the bat. He struggled for timing and apart from his 72* against Rajasthan Royals, he looked out of form. In IPL 2021 phase 2, skipper Virat Kohli’s form with the bat will be important to RCB’s chances.
Virat Kohli is RCB captain for 2021 season. In 2021, Kohli didn’t have a great season with the bat but his leadership skills were impressive as RCB inched closer to the playoffs spot. He is currently the leading run getter in the history of IPL and the only batsman to cross 6000 runs. Kohli has been a part of RCB ever since the inaugural edition of the tournament and is leading side since 2013.
RCB has played 7 matches this season in the first phase. They have won 5 matches and have lost just 2 till now. They are at third position in the points table and are in a good position to qualify for the next stage. RCB started off the season on a good note defeating the defending champions Mumbai Indians in a close encounter. They won their 4 initial games of the competition before losing to CSK. In the second phase, RCB will start their campaign on 20th September, 2021 when they will face KKR at Abu Dhabi.
RCB bought some interesting players for this season and tried to form a solid core for upcoming seasons. Here’s the list of players bought by them in IPL 2021 auctions along with their amounts.
Glenn Maxwell- ₹14.25 Crores
Sachin Baby- ₹20 Lakhs
Rajat Patidar – ₹20 lakh
Mohammed Azharuddeen – ₹20 lakh
Kyle Jamieson – ₹15 crore
Daniel Christian – ₹4.8 crore
Suyash Prabhudessai – ₹20 lakh
KS Bharat – ₹20 lakh
RCB is always considered as a favourite before the start of an IPL season. They have a group of world-class players who are capable of winning many titles for their team. They have two of the modern day greats in the line-up. But they have always lacked a reliable fast bowler who can win matches for them. They invested on Kyle Jamieson this year to address this problem. The lack of a quality Indian batsman in the lower order puts lot of pressure on Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers. The team tends to struggle when Kohli and de Villiers have a bad day.
