1. In 2019, Alzarri Joseph achieved the record for the best figures in IPL match, taking 6 wickets for just 12 runs against Sunrisers Hyderabad. In a low-scoring match, Mumbai Indians set a target of 137 runs which looked achievable for the Hyderabad team. However, Joseph’s exceptional performance proved to be a major setback for them and they lost the match by 40 runs after getting bundled out for just 96 runs.

2. This record was previously held for 11 years by Sohail Tanvir, who registered figures of 6/14 against Chennai Super Kings in the first season of IPL. In that match, playing for Rajasthan Royals, Tanvir’s spectacular performance led to Chennai getting all out for 109 runs while batting first. The Royals then chased down this total quite easily in 14.2 overs and won the match by 8 wickets.

3. In 2016, Australian leg-spinner Adam Zampa made a remarkable entry in the IPL by taking six wickets for just 19 runs in his second match of the tournament. His brilliant performance played a significant role in restricting Sunrisers Hyderabad to a modest total of 137/8 in 20 overs. Zampa’s wickets included the likes of David Warner, Shikhar Dhawan, and Yuvraj Singh.

However, despite his heroics, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) could not chase down the target as the SRH bowlers put up a good fight. CSK managed only 133/8 in their innings and lost the match by a mere four runs. Nevertheless, Zampa’s bowling figures remain the best performance by a bowler in a losing cause in the IPL. The young spinner’s impressive display earned him accolades from fans and experts alike, and he continued to be a vital part of the Rising Pune Supergiants team in the following seasons.

4. Anil Kumble, a legendary Indian leg-spinner, proved his worth in the IPL by setting a record for the most economical 5-wicket haul. He accomplished this feat during an innings against the Rajasthan Royals in which he conceded just five runs in 3.1 overs, including a maiden. The Royals were chasing a target of 134 runs, but were all out for a paltry 58 runs. This was the lowest innings total at that time and remains the second-lowest in IPL history.

Kumble was able to stifle the Rajasthan batsmen with his incredible accuracy and variations in spin. His economy rate of 1.56 runs per over in that match remains unmatched and is a testament to his skill as a bowler. Kumble’s impressive performance helped his team, Royal Challengers Bangalore, win the match by 75 runs, and he was deservedly awarded the Man of the Match title.

5. Jasprit Bumrah, one of India’s finest pacers, recorded the fifth best figures in IPL history. He was in blistering form against Kolkata Knight Riders in the 2022 edition of the tournament. Bumrah’s bowling spell was immaculate as he gave away a mere 10 runs in his four overs, while taking five wickets to his name.

Bumrah’s performance was crucial in Mumbai Indians’ win against KKR. He was almost unplayable on that day, and his fiery spell put the Knight Riders on the back foot. With his excellent control over line and length, Bumrah didn’t allow any of the KKR batsmen to settle down and score freely. His spell proved to be a game-changing one, and it helped Mumbai Indians secure a comfortable victory.

Bumrah’s consistency and accuracy have made him one of the best bowlers in world cricket today. His remarkable performance against KKR in IPL 2022 will go down in history as one of the best bowling spells in the tournament’s history.
